  marmalade, Dovorian in exile:
Ah, I can confirm that Mike certainly isn't muzzled at all - at least, not when his giving his sister his view on his sister! :-D

It was very nice to be at the Mayormaking last night, and to catch up with so many people. We've missed you all!

  Roger (lindenrog@aol.com), Dover:
Yes indeed, well done Mike.

Good to see you at the Mayor-making last night, shame so many Town Councillors had to go straight after.

Roger

  Martin, Deal:
Max if they can use Shakespeare then that is ideal, the gate that allows vehicles to enter is supposed to be for Plot holders only but if they do not lock it behind them then they cannot complain when cars do enter.

  jasper, dover:
hes been gagged alright !!!

14 May 2009 at 11:07 am

  max, dover:
martin, there are during the summer months a few jet skiers who use that beach, there is two sets of gates there, one set of kissing gates and one set of gates you could drive through.

14 May 2009 at 7:52 am

  Martin, Deal:
Yes I know, still a long way to haul a Jet Ski and even harder to haul it up again.

13 May 2009 at 7:50 pm

  max, dover:
no not really there is a way onto the beach down by lord warden hous.

13 May 2009 at 6:51 pm

  Martin, Deal:
Shakespeare is probably too far to the water for them, quite a slope too.

13 May 2009 at 6:25 pm

  max, dover:
shakespear beech is quite most days.

13 May 2009 at 4:29 pm

  Martin, Deal:
The Jet Skiers are not only going to turn up on grey miserable days when the Harbour is quiet, although this morning the Rowing Club were out despite the bad weather, they will want to be there when the sun shines and the swimmmers sailing club and rowers are out, there is no place for them at Dover.

  Phil West, Dover:
As a regular traveller through our port I used to get really annoyed at being constantly stopped by HMRC and/or the UK Border Agency people until I saw first hand just what they're up against.

Just yesterday (Tues 12th) a Polish truck was stopped in Calais and 15 illegals removed. Today they had a dog handler doing the rounds of the trucks on the dockside in Calais - and the dog went potty underneath the truck directly behind me, though I'm not sure if this was illegals or something else as I got called forward to load.

They do a damned fine job in my opinion.

According to the TV last night Charlie ie cocaine contains all sorts of unpleasant things..ie dog worming powder, rat poison etc as you said "take it at your peril"

8 year sentence seems rather light for the above offence?Unless of course it was in return for information given....

  max, dover:
they want to make pot noodles leagle.

13 May 2009 at 12:24 pm

  PaulB, Dover:
And speaking of Pot guys see the report above in the editorial piece on drug successes...a great bust, following others too across the country and not a noodle in sight!!

There were calls from experts on the radio, despite these successes, that some drug distribution should be legalised as its a never ending war on drugs that cant be won.

Should some softer drugs be legalised, should they be legally distributed in order to take criminal gangs out of the equasion??

12 May 2009 at 8:54 pm

  howard mcsweeney, dover:
maybe that customs vessel got confused over paul's taste for "pot" noodles?

12 May 2009 at 8:46 pm

  max, dover:
yeah ww2 mines across the harbour.

12 May 2009 at 8:26 pm

  howard mcsweeney, dover:
there must be a way of reaching agreement regarding the use of jet skis.

i seem to remember them being banned from parts of the lake district because of their dangerous nature.

it always seems to me that the beach and immediate sea is well used with the swimmers, sail clubs, divers etc.

maybe an hour or two a week could be set aside for jet ski users, with clear notices of the hours displayed?

12 May 2009 at 7:12 pm

  max, dover:
that customs cutter looks menising sitting of boland towers.

12 May 2009 at 5:46 pm

  PaulB (dover7@msn.com), Dover:
Well chaps fair enough, and you make some fair points there, but of course I wouldnt be recommending that the Jetskis go scything through the swimmers on a sunday morning, but there are vast areas of time when the harbour is under used or unused. Take right now this minute, just past four pm. I live here and look out on it. Okay granted that its a murky day...but here is the scenario. There is nothing in or on the sea. No swimmers, no sailboats, no yachts, no windsurfers...its just barren and grey. There is one man on the beach near one of the huts with two kids, and one lone figure huddled in the kiosk cafe area....so all quite on the western front. There are many days like this even in summer....so loads of time and opportunity for expanding the facilities I would have thought.

12 May 2009 at 4:11 pm

  Martin , Deal:
I am with Phil on this one, there is a well established community that use the Harbour, Jet Skis have no place in it.

12 May 2009 at 11:18 am

  Phil, Whitfield:
I don't understand what you mean by a dead seafront. On the contrary in the summer the seafront is a vibrant place to be. Swimmers, canoeists, children paddling and picniking on the beach. Those monstrous machines (jetskis) are nothing but a menace. Over-aged teenage toys. Rather like boy racers speeding down the London Road they present nothing more than a noisy distraction to those who enjoy the seafront in the summer. Not only that they present a real danger to swimmers in the area especially the cross channel squads who train there over the weekend. No I think you've got it wrong on this one. Ban the things!

Good News from LD Lines, between Dover and Boulogne from 29th May, they have announced a special introductory offer of 2,000 tickets from £27.50 each way for a car and 4 passengers based on a 5 day return. This offer is subject to availability, must be booked by 28th May and is valid to the end of September 2009.

Now the news that most of us have been waiting for, foot passengers fares start from £9 each way - day return £18 on selected sailings on the New fast ferry "Norman Arrow" from the 1st June.

Due to weather conditions in the Dover Straits this morning the Emerald Princess cruise liner couldn't make it into Dover, they tried several times but alas had to give up and head for Zeebrugge. Hope they make it in there.

  Sid Perkins (sidperkins@btinternet.com), Lagos, Nigeria:
Nice to see Dover attracting supermarkets. Low paid jobs aplenty, but still nothing to spend the wages on, well, except for going to, yep, you guessed it, THE SUPERMARKET!!

Is this really the BEST that can be done for our town?

9 May 2009 at 9:50 pm

  Barry W-S, Dover:
Wow! Morrisons On Ice! Now that would be something! :D

9 May 2009 at 8:02 pm

  howard mcsweeney, dover:
that was my understanding paul, no-one else has applied for planning permission

rumours will persist in the town, because gossip is a popular pastime here.

only yesterday, someone told me with certainty that a skating rink was planned for the site.

9 May 2009 at 7:47 pm

  Terry Nunn, London Road:
Morrisons or whoever, it's something happening and on a big scale.
