As it is showing you in the photos it might only be 21 miles across but when it is this rough it seems a lot longer and why we must have well trained crews and officers that are at the top of the tree.

A reminder reprinted from a previous post about the Eggciting Eggstravaganza on today for kids everywhere
...and the weather forecast is better tooooo
Enter now for the egg-citing children’s Easter Race Eggs-travaganza along Dover’s Egg-cellent Esplanade
__________________________________________________________________________________________
Come and join the fun at the Port of Dover’s first Easter Mile Race along our award-winning seafront on Tuesday, March 29. The event, which will start at 4pm, is open to all children from the ages of three to 14.
Following the success of last year’s Hallowe’en children’s race, the Port is inviting all budding athletes, keen fun runners and even toddlers to take part in the event - all sporting colourful Easter bonnets as they run a mile along the seafront.
There will be trophies for the winning girl and boy in each category, and medals for all runners, plus prizes for the best Easter bonnets. So get creative, put on your running shoes and join the party.
All money raised, through the purchase of refreshments, will go to this year’s Port of Dover Community Regatta charity, Dover Sea Cadets.
Tim Waggott, the Port of Dover’s chief executive, said: "Our children’s races have proved so popular with youngsters and their parents, we decided to extend our racing calendar with the addition of the Easter event.
"We want to see as many runners as possible wearing Easter bonnets along the seafront. We’ll be handing out awards for the fastest competitors as well as those with the best costumes."
The run will be separated into two heats – one for three to eight-year-olds (and their parents) and one for nine to 14-year-olds – with space for 40 competitors in each.
In addition to the winners’ prizes – sponsored by Dover Western Docks Revival contractors GRAHAM - every runner who finishes will get a medal and goody bag. The after-race party will feature an Easter Egg hunt, and plenty to eat and drink.
To book your space, please email alyson.hudson@doverport.co.uk or call 01304240400.
The promenade and beach will remain open to the public for those who wish to watch the races, so come along and cheer them all on!
ENDS
Ah yes..remember Paul well Howard. Interesting picture indeed below there. Rough oul day yesterday for sure.
lol! Brian - no way!

in the previous post we mentioned the Cote des Flandres 'giving it a go' despite the Port being closed. It was towards the tail end of the closure and she left by the western exit. These are the conditions she met below. Rough is an understatement...it was totally tough, as you can see in the pic below. The quality of the picture is poor as at that time it was too dangerous to open the high flung window...so shot through it...

Its a rough oul morning here in the 'observation tower' overlooking the Port of Dover. Time of writing 06.20. I was assured the other day that it was okay for the tower to rock in the high winds but I'm not terribly convinced. Not at this moment. I believe this storm is called Katie...so there we are. Batten down the hatches, One of the Spirits is trying to dock as I write while the high winds make it nigh on impossible to do so. Its rough out there for sure. Very rough!
Above is a shot of the Cote des Dunes approaching the Port yesterday. It was bright and cheerful but the blustery conditions soon got the sea roughed up.
Below we have a slightly more tranquil pic from earlier in the day of the Lifeboat going out on its usual sunday morning drill. But in the distance you can see the sea beginning to get agitated.
That's a cracking pic below Ed..ace man! Those pilots earn their keep and no mistake.
Lol! Mark - you should certainly enjoy a hassle free trip.
I have been assured by the PR teams at both DFDS and P&O that while there may be rum available...sodomy and the lash are strictly a no-no...
....at least for the foreseeable future.
" we have no plans to introduce these variables at this time"

LATEST: the Port of Dover has closed 08.00 - 11.00 due to the severe weather conditions.

Happy Easter indeed, PB.
But seeing as how you're steeped in piracy lore, perhaps you could help me out with some advice. I'm currently planning my summer holiday trip to France and was wondering, between DFDS and P&O (and indeed Eurotunnel), whether I will find differing attitudes towards Rum, Sodomy and the Lash on board each in these modern times. I suppose on a 90 minute crossing there's not that much call for those sorts of diversions...

A few days ago I had a drink or two with the guy above in Cullins Yard. I talked for long periods on the plight of piracy in the modern age. 'Its not what it was' said I. 'There's no swash anymore and the buckle just isn't the same either'. After a few drinks more I realised this guy was a bit of a surly fellow and wasn't saying much. 'Playing your cards close to your chest are we'..thought I wistfully at that point. I pondered on flashing my sabre in the glistening light to make an impression...but no, I decided against it...so with all things considered and the bottle empty, I departed in fine style with a flippant flick of the forelock...
...only knocking two chairs over on the way out!
PB
Happy Easter to All.

The great Easter getaway began in earnest yesterday with the traffic snarled up for most of the day....however it did seem to be moving, albeit slowly. The ferries however worked frantically hard to accommodate everyone and get them all away on their continental journeys. Much use was made of the western exit to keep the flow fast moving. Above we see the Cote des Flandres moving across the harbour around 5.15pm last evening.
Below...from a couple of evenings ago we have , what we now might consider and old friend....yes its the MPI Discovery catching the late rays a few evenings back. Out of Vlissingen...destination unclear.
Thanks for the comments below guys....
Bet that tall ships event in Antwerp will be great Colette

That's a terrific brand spanking 'New Terminal' there at Dunkerque, I'm looking forward to a trip there this Summer for sure. Great photos too from the DFDS team & of course Mr George Holland himself
Talking of photos, that there is an awesome 'Tall Ships' photo MrB And talking of Tall Ships, 2016 is the 'Diamond Anniversary' of the Tall Ships Races so it's set to be an extra special event. This year they're departing from the 'Diamond Capital' of Europe, Antwerp, very appropriate. They will be there from 6th-10th July, before departing with a magnificent parade to the next stage, Lisbon, Portugal
Lovely to see the black-headed gulls having fun darting through the jet streams, nice photos too
Brian, hope to see you on Tuesday at the Easter Egg Race..... yummy!!!!
