A couple of pictures above there of the approaching Cornelis Vrolijk from two days ago. As we know the vessel comes comes here regularly for a crew change, in fact in the second picture you can I guess see the crew waiting on deck for imminent departure. That appears to be the situation anyway.

Bit windy to be up there yesterday Mike. Wow! must have been rough and tough. Some nice pix below capturing the mood.

Wednesday morning as the wind slowly eased after a wild night of wind & rain, with seas breaking over the breakwater at high water.
AIS showed that the tugs had been out assisting during the night but they had returned to roost in the Tug Haven,

The BURGUNDY slipped out thru Western as the FRANCE docked on No.9 & out at sea the huge MUNKEBO MAERSK [399mtrs long] headed for the Suez Canal & the Far East from Rotterdam.

Following on from Mike's pix of the arriving Magellan Strait...here are another few to add to the collection. Yours truly initially thought it was a cruise liner approaching, the tugs had leapt into action and I saw this long distance vision. As it got closer it became clear, it was the unusual shape of the now familiar visitor...the Magellan Strait....arriving under a dramatic sky. The unusual top shot presented itself when into the line of vision popped the Dunkerque Seaways.

You wont need me to remind you just how rough it has been,,,,the scene around 11am yesterday morning in the pic below. It had been a rough night and not much better in the morning. That truck is just about to have an enormous wave crash onto it. Not a day for the casual stroll along the prom.
Yes indeed Vic those ships are looking great.

A COMMUNITY LED PORT IS RISING AT THE DOCKS...says local MP Charlie Elphicke
____________________________________________________________________

It’s great news that we have received confirmation that the first community directors will now be appointed to the Dover Harbour Board. The decision by the Marine Management Organisation shows how far we have come in five short years. Five years ago the port was set to be sold off to the French or whoever by the previous Government. All that was required was a flick of the Minister's pen and centuries of history would all have been over.

After our powerful community campaign, we didn’t just stop the port sell off plan. We won important reforms. The port would have the powers it needed to raise money for investment in the future. Looking at the waterside we can see how badly that investment is needed. We can also see the progress being made on the Western Docks Revival as decades of neglect start to be rolled back. The port also agreed to set up a community fund for the benefit of the community. Already it has been active and I hope it will gain greater funds in due course. This is important as a complaint of many was that the port did too little to benefit the town. Now it does more.

Yet the most important plank of port reform was that the community should be represented in the boardroom. It is essential we should have community directors we can have trust and confidence in. Because we need to ensure there is an ever closer partnership between the port, port businesses and the community. The two community directors that are being appointed, Neil Wiggins and Samantha Parker, are well qualified and the best people for the job.

For decades there has been tension in the port-community relationship. This needs to change and the only way to change it will be by bringing together the port, ferry companies and the people. This is what the People's Port was all about. If the port was to be sold then we wanted to buy it to drive that partnership. The end of the privatisation threat did not make the need for a true partnership go away.

Only if we all work together will we see the kind of Dover we want to build. Only then will we get the investment, have the sense of common purpose and the community led port that is required to change Dover.

We have before us a great opportunity. A chance for the unity and common purpose that is required to change Dover forever. To make our town again a jewel in the crown of the nation. A place people want to visit. The first sight of England that makes us proud and impresses visitors from the lands overseas. The challenge lies with us all to grasp this opportunity and forge the partnership that will change Dover forever.

CHARLIE ELPHICKE MP FOR DOVER AND DEAL.

Interesting pix from Ed of the jack-up ship MPI RESOLUTION at Dunkerque.

Another windfarm installation vessel, the BRAVE TERN, was recently conducting trials in Rotterdam & looks most odd when the jacking-up occurs in shallow water.

Re post #2487: Wind turbine installation vessel MPI Discovery is a near sister of MPI Resolution seen here at the Operation Dynamo commemoration in Dunkerque in 2010 with some of the Dunkirk little ships passing her followed by HMS Monmouth. During 2010, MPI Resolution was installing wind turbines at the Thanet wind farm.

MAGELLAN STRAIT arrived from Vlissingen on Tuesday morning.
Good visibility this morning.

About 20 minutes later later the CORNELIS VROLIJK, came in thru Western Entrance for a quick rendezvous in the bay with the Hammonds launch [probably a crew change] before leaving for Ymuiden,

The LIZRIX had left Dover in the wee small hours of Tuesday morning & could be seen on AIS heading slowly for Dunkerque at about 4kts, presumably for further repairs.
She seemed to be under her own power, with no tugs visible.

Engine start !

Spotted this great beast moving down the channel yesterday around about midday. It didn't appear to have a marked destination on the AIS but it had just left Vlissingen and as you can see...heading south. To use that sweeping technical term once more...wot a whopper! She is called the MPI Discovery. In the near distance you can see the hard working freight carrier...the European Seaways.

Round about the same time the Atlantic Reefer arrived...forgot to check but could also be another one out of Vlissingen. They must be busy over there at Vlissingen in Holland. Busy here too as the vessel has already left us. The team at the docks working hard through the night.

Wow! terrific collection below there again from Jeremy. Brilliant work...that ferry looks great.
Outscooped us all again Jeremy. Wowser!
Fascinating poster that Ed. Hadnt seen that before and nice pic of the Dar Mlodziezy here in Dover.
Have never seen her under full sail ...but one lives in hope.
Well done lads all round. yes as Jan said below there, some great work going on here.
Thanks Ray....glad the Falcon and Karibia Breeze crews enjoyed the pictures. Best wishes to them.

Paul, the Falcon and Karibia Breeze crew loved your photos - especially the Falcon helmsman, you can't see him in the pics as he's only 12 years old and hidden by the adults!

Wow! you were out there on Falcon Ray...great stuff indeed, looked very exhilarating and exciting out there on the sparkling water. Glad you liked the pictures and well done for sending the guys the link through. That's another amazing co-incidence following along from the Tall Ship story.

Sarah mentioned the Trinity House vessel Galatea. Yours truly didn't spot her this time but here below we have a picture by Martin Collins who worked one time as press officer for the Dover Lifeboat. Martin and myself had a good working relationship back in the day - the picture showing here dates from 2009, can you believe it, where do the years ago!? Martin has since moved on. I suppose I did myself in a way as I stopped doing the overall doverforum which was frantic in those days and eventually after a hiatus of a couple of years started this page up.. with Chris Tutthill's help.
If you are out there Martin - hope all going well.

But I ramble...back to the facts, the picture of Galatea below was taken by Martin Collins in 2009 from onboard the Ramsgate Lifeboat, during an exercise I believe...so there you have it. PaulB.

Nice pictures below there Sarah once again..you've gone all airborne there. Smiley Smiley

Here is the Coastguard helicopter taking the unfortunate man to hospital. I hope along with all that a speedy recovery is forthcoming.

Patricia has now left the area but Galatea came past Dover yesterday I hope you managed to get it Paul Smiley

Yesterday it was Spitfire Day here, sadly the visit of the 9th Spitfire was in terrible weather, sleeting & rain, so I apologise for the poor photograph. Smiley

Gosh isn't that an interesting co-incidence Sarah about the Ramsgate Lifeboat and the three-masted sailing ship featured below in post 2477...yes have had a look at the Facebook page for Ramsgate Lifeboat and it is almost certainly the same ship...the Dar Mlodziezy. For readers not up to speed - A person had a suspected heart attack onboard this vessel and was taken to hospital. Hopefully the person concerned will be okay with the required vital and essential treatment. Best wishes from us all.
Thanks for that info Sarah.

Glad you liked the pictures of Patricia, she has been busy out there for several days now and may get down your way soon...so keep that camera primed!

The two yachts above were in fine bright action yesterday Saturday in Dover Harbour. It was great to see some yachting activity once again - perhaps it heralds the arrival of Spring, albeit a very chilly one so far... me timbers are still a-shiverin and no mistake. No visible sap rising as yet around here..

Awesome photos of Patricia, Paul Smiley I have been trying to catch her for days but to no avail. Spookily the Polish masted boat also featured looks like the boat our lifeboat was called out to yesterday, there is a photo on the Ramsgate Lifeboat facebook page taken by one of the crew. Great to actually see Cap Gris Nez Lighthouse on it, what a treat. Smiley it is such a stunning lighthouse.

Visibility was quite good on Thursday evening when this beast was spotted moving down the channel. Its a monster 'box boat' en route from Hamburg to Southampton. In fact her name is Southampton...the OOCL Southampton. A magnificent ship seen on a gorgeous evening.

Yesterday the visibility wasn't so good for the tall sailing ship below, but we had a stab at getting an image even though she was a long way out. This one visited Dover a few years back and its called the....hold on this is a mouthful...the Polish tall ship Dar Mlodziezy. Hopefully that spelling is right. Directly behind her there of course is the coast of France...that may be the monument at Cap Gris Nez although in the image below there it looks like a lighthouse...but..

Below we have the buoy laying vessel called Patricia. She has been working way out in the channel for the past few days, buoy laying I guess, but came in close to Port here on Thursday and here she is.

This is a clearer picture from a previous time as the light was tricky in the first shot. You can see her better below in a pic from a few months ago.

Nice collection once again below there from our roving contributor extraordinaire...well done Sarah Hewes.
On the case as ever with some terrific work in the pictures below.
Yes indeed Vic.
