Road Traffic Incident at Eastern Docks Roundabout

The Port of Dover can confirm that a road traffic incident has taken place at the entrance to the Port at 1830hrs. Emergency services are at the scene and Port of Dover Police are assisting.

The Port advises that Operation Stack remains in place (holding freight traffic on both the coast-bound and London bound carriageway of the M20 between Junction 8 & 9).

UPDATE: Ongoing Industrial Action at Port of Calais - LATEST @2050hrs

The Port of Calais remains affected by an ongoing period of industrial action in France commencing at 1420 BST on 29th June. Ferry services to and from the Port of Dover continue to be affected, with DFDS Seaways services still running to Dunkerque as normal. P&O Ferries have run a limited discharge only service to Boulogne for outbound traffic and this will re-commence in the morning on 1 July.

The duration of this industrial action remains unknown.

The Port of Dover is liaising closely with Kent Police and Highways England, as Operation Stack remains in place (holding freight traffic on both the coast-bound and London bound carriageway of the M20 between Junction 8 & 9). All freight traffic heading towards Dover must join the Operation Stack queue. When you reach the front of the queue you will be given a ticket to allow you to travel to the continent.

Non-freight traffic continues to be diverted onto the A20 in both directions. This allows backed-up lorries to park on both the coast-bound and London-bound carriageways of the M20. All other vehicles should follow the yellow diversion signs with the black writing from the M20.

Customers are advised to contact their chosen ferry operator before travelling and consult the Port of Dover website (www.doverport.co.uk) or Twitter account (@PoD_travelnews) for the latest travel information.

We sincerely regret the impact to the travelling public, freight and the Dover community of a situation that is beyond our control. We will continue to monitor the situation closely in liaison with our ferry partners and the Port of Calais in order to resume normal operations as soon as possible.

Please note that there may be delays to services when the industrial action ends.

Interesting to see the GANN in Dover today. She was a car ferry herself in a former existence, running as the Narvik for Hurtigruten on the wonderful Bergen to Kirkenes run until 2007 before being displaced by new tonnage. The rear accommodation block was retrofitted and really doesn't improve her looks ! One twin, the Vesteralen, is still operating for Hurtigruten whilst another is now an expedition cruise ship for National Geographic.

The Norwegian training ship GANN, who operates as a small cruise ship during the tourist season came in Monday afternoon from Sunderland & should be on Cruise-1 until Tuesday night.





The MALO SEAWAYS came in & parked up on the Eastern Arm until the Calais problems resolve themselves.





The former Onassis yacht JACKIE O passed Dover Monday evening bound for Marseilles after many years laid-up in Chatham.
She was a bit far off & the second photo has been trimmed until the pixels squeaked.
She started life in 1943 as a Canadian frigate.








Another classic, in it’s own way, the lobster boat BOY LUKE, came in soon after the GANN arrived, trailed by hopeful seagulls.
Although a long-time Dover resident her ‘HH’ letters indicate that she is registered as a fishing vessel in Harwich.

Ongoing Industrial Action at Port of Calais UPDATE @20.00

In the pic above we have the flourishing Herald of Free Enterprise memorial gardens along Dover Seafront. The flowers have burst forth in abundance this year in terrific style. Its almost as if someone is feeding them supersonic supernatural fertilizer...whatever is happening anyway it is truly working. It is a very nice remembrance garden indeed. Below we have some wilder flowers seen nearby. Is that a transient snapdragon in the middle of all those wild flowers..amazing how they thrive if left alone. Pictures from yesterday sunday.

July kicks off when the Saga Sapphire returns on Wednesday July 1st CT1, TR.

Nothing then until Saturday July 4th, Independence Day, the Ocean Princess is back at CT2, TR.

A break then until Wednesday July 8th, when the Saga Pearl II is back at CT2, TR.

And now, what we've all been waiting for, on Friday July 10th the Magic returns to Dover in the form of the Great and Wonderful 'Disney Magic'. She will be in her splendour awaiting the flashbulbs at CT2, TR, keep your eyes peeled for Mickey and Minnie (We have two more appearances to come this season, July 22nd and August 3rd).

The following day Saturday July 11th the familiar Braemar is back with us at CT2, TR.

Another break until Wednesday July 15th when the Saga Pearl II comes back to us at CT1, TR.

The following day Thursday July 16th we have another opportunity to see the Elegant & Stylish 'Celebrity Silhouette' at CT2 on a Port of Call.

No ship the following day, I will be back with more for July

Very busy day along the seafront yesterday saturday with the annual rowing regatta taking place. Lots of races of varying sizes going to and fro. Weatherwise the first part of the day was beautifully sunny and fairly calm but a strong nasty breeze picked up which made it pretty difficult..especially coming back across the harbour from east to west. It sure emptied the beach of sunbathers. But those rowers are a hardy lot - lets hope they all had a wonderful day.
A very colourful event.

is that right Brian..well I never. We don't want the little beasts nibbling our ankles do we. No sir!
A double header of cruise liners in today...the Crystal Symphony and the Braemar.

Some exhilarating pictures now from the Walmer Lifeboat Day.. which took place last weekend. Judging from the pictures it looks to have been a hugely exciting day with lots happening. Obviously it was a great demo by the Lifeboat crews and great camera work once again here by SARAH HEWES...that's Dover Lifeboat in the thick of the blistering action below. Many thanks Sarah, great to see the pictures.
