Just to hark back for a moment to the departing Europa. Mike mentioned the Balmoral in his post below ( 2710 ) and indeed showed the liner passing. I checked back through the pictures in the camera from Friday evening and found I had one with both Balmoral and Europa together and there we are above. Have added the two below to round things up in the system.
Great work below once again from Ed and from Sarah...

I had an early start today to catch the Royal Navy activity down in the harbour.
HMS Ranger P293 leaving the harbour - not seen her for a long time, she was one of the escorts of the Little Ships of Dunkirk last May.
HMS Blazer P279 leaving the harbour soon afterwards.
Border Force Valiant was also in the harbour. HMS Ranger & HMS Blazer in the background.

As the EUROPA sailed the BALMORAL passed the port, bound for Newcastle from Southampton.
Couldn't get both ships in the same photo, so had to make do with a ferry. [CANTERBURY ?].

Sarah - The KENT was on the slip yesterday.
She was built for KNIGHTS of Rochester in 1949 & was sold in 1995 for £1 to the South Eastern Tug Association who have kept her & the smaller barge tug FEARNAUGHT in fine operational order.
Very little action mid-morning yesterday apart from fishermen.
There was a Border Agency cutter parked in their usual spot on the West Pier, but I missed it sailing as I was in the engineroom of the LORD DEVONPORT at the time !

Thursday - two ex-Port of London Authority diesel tugs have been lying at Ramsgate for several days after spending some years laid-up in the Stour.
They are waiting surveys before being towed up to the Medway, perhaps next week.
Both were built by at Pollocks shipbuilding yard at Faversham, the LORD DEVONPORT in 1959 & the LORD WAVERLEY in 1960.
They were used by the PLA mostly for barge & hopper haulage & for odd jobs & are low-profile to pass under the bridges.
When they arrived in the Stour under tow in May 2011 the LORD WAVERLEY was aground for several tides at the mouth of the river.

Seeing Ed's picture of the Nao Victoria in Post 2697 sent me scurrying back through the archives. I am sure I photographed that one in Dunkerque a few years back ..thought I. So I searched and searched and here she is immediately below....but alas its not the same vessel. In fact I don't even know what this one is called but you can see some considerable differences. But worth a look, I don't think this picture was ever used...
And below and extra pic as who can resist the tall ships...having a glass of wine with the tall ships as the sun goes down in Dunkerque.

This tiny vessel was photographed from long distance transiting the Dunkerque waiting area on Monday evening. It is a full size replica of the Spanish carrack Nao Victoria which was the first vessel to circumnavigate the globe. Ferdinand Magellan commenced the voyage with five ships and 265 men. He died, as did most of the others, with four ships being lost along the way and only the Victoria returning after a three year voyage with just eighteen men alive.
